A series of initiatives marking the centenary of Giuseppe Campos Venuti (1926–2019)

Giuseppe Campos Venuti Centenary 1926–2026

Opening Day

On 16 October 2026, from 9:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., Palazzo d’Accursio in Bologna will host “The Reformist Legacy of Giuseppe Campos Venuti, One Hundred Years after His Birth”, the first event in a series of three initiatives promoted by a Scientific Committee composed of his main former students and friends. The event marks the centenary of the birth of Giuseppe Campos Venuti, born on 3 August 1926 and one of the most influential figures in Italian urban planning in the second half of the twentieth century.

Councillor for Urban Planning for the Municipality of Bologna, professor at Politecnico di Milano for over thirty years, and designer of plans for numerous Italian and European cities, Campos Venuti combined disciplinary rigour, political commitment and planning practice, making a decisive contribution to defining the public role of urban planning in republican Italy.

The day will consist of three thematic sessions and a concluding round table. The event will retrace Campos Venuti’s intellectual and political profile, his commitment to the territories of Emilia-Romagna, and the current relevance of his thought in relation to issues such as urban land rent, the public city, the environment and design.

The series will continue between autumn 2026 and spring 2027 at Sapienza University of Rome, to explore the design-related and international dimensions of his work, and at Politecnico di Milano, where Campos Venuti taught and where his archive is now held.
