Bergamo Fiera Nuova

Masterplan Presentation

Developed by a research team led by Professors Oscar Eugenio Bellini and Emilio Faroldi of the Department of Architecture, Construction Engineering, and Built Environment at the Politecnico of Milan, with urban planning consultancy from architect Gianluca Della Mea, the master plan proposal for the expansion of Bergamo Fiera Nuova defines the architectural, functional, and infrastructural guidelines for the development of the exhibition center.

The project involves doubling the covered exhibition space, creating a new glass gallery, and creating a business services hub through the construction of two new pavilions. The concept, inspired by the site's unique topography and the skyline of the Orobie Alps, is based on two key principles: spatial flexibility and functional reconfigurability. The new pavilions are conceived as modular and combinable structures, capable of adapting over time to the ever-evolving needs and usage patterns that characterize contemporary exhibition spaces.

The design concept was presented on Monday, March 23, 2026, to the President of the Lombardy Region, Attilio Fontana, and to Councilors Guido Guidesi (Economic Development) and Claudia Maria Terzi (Infrastructure and Public Works). The meeting, held at Palazzo Lombardia, was also attended by Giovanni Zambonelli (President of the Bergamo Chamber of Commerce), Gianfranco Gafforelli (President of the Province of Bergamo), Elena Carnevali (Mayor of Bergamo), and Giuseppe Epinati (Sole Director of Bergamo Fiera Nuova S.p.A.).
