The 7th archaeological mission of the Politecnico of Milano is underway at the late Roman site of Umm al-Dabadib, in the Kharga Oasis, in the Western Desert of Egypt.
The team, led by Corinna Rossi (Professor of Egyptology, DABC), is composed of Clementina Caputo (RTDa, DABC), Alessandro Mandelli (Laboratory Technician, DABC), Stefania Alfarano (Research Affiliate, ISAW NYU), Cesare Iezzi (PhD Student, University of Salento), and Nicoletta De Troia (MSCA Postdoctoral Fellow, University of Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne).
The mission is excavating a Roman dwelling unit and providing important information on the history of the site and Roman control of the Western Desert of Egypt.
The investigation is being conducted using integrated techniques: archaeological excavation, topographic survey, photogrammetry, and study of the ceramics and texts found.
The mission thanks the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities, the Governorate of the New Valley and Pan Arab Tours.
