Italian-Dutch mission to Saqqara

2023

As part of a memorandum of understanding between the Polytechnic University of Milan and the Egyptian Museum, Turin, the EIDOLON laboratory unit collaborates with the joint Turin/Leiden archaeological mission in Saqqara, led by the Egyptian Museum, Turin and the Rijksmuseum van Oudheden, Leiden.
The team members have so far participated in the 2018, 2019, 2022 and 2023 seasons of the mission and have had the opportunity to apply methods and techniques of surveying and three-dimensional data reporting in the field that allow archaeologists to retrace the different excavation thresholds over time.
Three lines of research are active and applied in the field: the three-dimensional survey of stratigraphy, the construction of an overall three-dimensional model of the entire concession, and the survey of narrow, dark spaces.
