Architecture as a determinant of urban and mental health

A Public Health Approach

Date

12/03/2026

Time

13:30 - 18:30

Location

Spazio Vetrato, Edificio 13 (Trifoglio), Campus Leonardo, Politecnico di Milano, Via Bonardi 9, 20133, Milano

The built environment around us is an important determinant of population health. Climate change, urban environments and air pollutants are just some of the risk factors that can influence the development of chronic diseases in both adults and children. In particular, scientific evidence linking these environmental factors to neurodegenerative diseases and neurodevelopmental disorders is growing, highlighting the importance of prevention. Against this backdrop, the seminar aims to explore the central role of synergy between public health and architectural and urban planning, both in assessing the relationship between health and the environment and in defining prevention policies for the development of future cities and healthy living environments.

The seminar is part of two research projects:

  • PRIN 2022 - ALIGNED by UNIMORE / POLIMI / UNICT
Air pollution, LIght at night, Greenness and risk of NEurodegenerative and NEurodevelopmental Diseases.
  • PRIN 2022 PNRR - DOUBTS by POLIMI / UNIMORE / UNIPV
Dementia-friendly OUtdoor BuilT environmentS. Evidence among Outdoor air pollution, Artificial Light At Night (ALAN), Greenness and Dementia.
