The conference “Protection and Enhancement of Archaeological Sites for Economic and Territorial Development”, scheduled for Monday, April 20, 2026, at the Politecnico di Milano (Aula Rogers, Building 11 – via Ampère 10), represents an important opportunity for discussion among scholars, researchers, and professionals working in the field of cultural heritage conservation.

Starting at 10:30 AM, the event will address key topics for the future of archaeological sites, with a focus on at-risk heritage, diagnostic techniques for materials, applications of artificial intelligence in restoration, and innovative strategies for the management and enhancement of UNESCO sites.

The day will be introduced by Nora Lombardini, faculty member of the ABC Department at Politecnico di Milano, and moderated by Iris Pojani and Lorenc Bejko. The program features contributions from international experts presenting case studies and interdisciplinary perspectives, fostering dialogue between scientific research, design, and territorial development.

RAVENNA — APRIL 22, 2026

On Wednesday, April 22, 2026, at the Sala D’Attorre – Casa Melandri (via Ponte Marino 2, Ravenna), the second event of the conference “Protection and Enhancement of Archaeological Sites for Economic and Territorial Development” will take place, with a specific focus on the restoration and conservation of mosaics.

Beginning with registration at 10:00 AM, the day will explore topics such as in situ conservation of mosaic pavements, consolidation techniques, museum display strategies, and management approaches for archaeological sites in relation to the challenges posed by climate change. Special attention will also be given to training and valorization experiences developed in the Ravenna context.

The event will be introduced by Andrea Quintino Sardo and moderated by Nora Lombardini, faculty member of the ABC Department at Politecnico di Milano. The program includes contributions from scholars and experts presenting case studies and operational approaches, offering an updated overview of conservation and management practices for archaeological heritage.
