New seismic safety

Virginio Quaglini (Principal Investigator), Sara Cattaneo, Giulia Fava, Gabriele Milani, Carlo Poggi, Paola Dubini, Marianna Formisano, Eleonora Bruschi

The project developed the research, development, and product innovation chain in the anti-seismic sector, working on both existing and new buildings. The action focused both on the structure of the buildings and on the content, also with reference to interventions on “strategic” buildings containing equipment of high technological or historical-artistic value, through the implementation of strategies of base insulation and/or energy dissipation. The project involved the development of the elastomeric material, the testing of insulation and energy dissipation devices and the experimental verification of the expected performance on prototypes and devices, including full-scale ones. The research has led to the industrialisation of a seismic isolator and a seismic dissipator, which have been considerably renewed and improved, and are able to meet higher performance requirements.

Contribution to SDGs: 9

  • DABC Activities

    • Dynamic characterization of elastomers. • Development and experimental characterization of small elastomeric isolators for the protection of lightweight structures. • Development and experimental characterization of elastomeric dissipative elements. • Numerical modeling of elastomeric isolators.
