Associate Professor

Marco Muscogiuri is an architect and associate professor at the Politecnico di Milano, where he has been teaching and conducting research since 1999 in the disciplinary fields of representation and architectural design. He has produced projects for public and private clients and taken part in competitions, earning awards and commendations, with a particular focus on themes related to public spaces and cultural venues. He is the author of numerous essays, articles, and books devoted to the design of cultural places. He regularly writes for the magazines Biblioteche Oggi and Arketipo.

Career

Degree in Architecture from the Politecnico di Milano, academic year 1997-98, graduated with honors.

PhD in “Building Systems and Processes Engineering,” XVI cycle (2001-2004) at the Politecnico di Milano, with scholarship, graduated with honors. Registered with the Order of Architects, Planners, Landscape Architects, and Conservators of the Province of Milan, registration number 11609, on May 22, 2000. Associate Professor Macro sector 08/E1 - Design, affiliated with DABC / Department of Architecture, Construction Engineering, and the Built Environment at the Politecnico di Milano, Via Ponzio 31, I - 20133 Milan.

Research

  • FUNCTIONAL AND ARCHITECTURAL DESIGN OF LIBRARIES AND CULTURAL VENUES, GUIDELINES AND FUNCTIONAL PROGRAMS.
  • REPRESENTATION OF ARCHITECTURAL DESIGN in its various forms, with particular attention to freehand drawing and sketching as fundamental tools in the heuristic phase of the design process, and to the changing.
  • RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN SKETCHING AND DIGITAL DRAWING resulting from the development of new digital graphics technologies.

Since 2020: Head of Research Contracts between the Politecnico di Milano and the University of Milan for the renovation of libraries belonging to the University Library Service.

Since 2018: Head of Research Contract between the Politecnico di Milano and the University of Milan for the renovation and refurbishment of the new Law Library of the University of Milan in the Crociera Filaretiana, in Largo Ricchini, Milan.

Since 2018: Head of the Research Contract between the Politecnico di Milano and the University of Milan for the design of the new library hub at Campus Mind. 2020-2022: Member of the “Library Architecture” Commission of the Italian Library Association.

2018-2020: Head of Research Contracts between the Politecnico di Milano and CSBNO - Culture Socialità Biblioteche Network Operativo for library and cultural center projects.

2017–2018: Coordination of the working group for the drafting of the “Guidelines for the redevelopment and new construction of local libraries” on behalf of the Municipality of Milan.

2017 – Selected among the TEN FINALISTS in Italy by the MiBACT / General Directorate for Contemporary Art and Architecture and Urban Peripheries (Ministry of Cultural Heritage and Activities and Tourism) to develop a CURATORIAL PROPOSAL FOR THE ITALIAN PAVILION at the 16th International Architecture Exhibition of the Venice Biennale 2018 (selection won by arch.
