Co-generating inclusive mixités in the city

CO-MIX is a project focused on the younger generations in the city of Lucca and strongly geared towards social inclusion, fostered from childhood through processes of empowerment and integration. The prefix ‘CO’, standing for collaboration and co-design, and the noun ‘MIX’, representing functional and social diversity, are the driving forces and key concepts behind the initiative. CO-MIX is an initiative to experiment with and stimulate new ways of living, to bring about ‘new forms of home’. CO-MIX aims to promote dialogue, encounters and the relationships that arise in the city’s public spaces, and seeks to build collective actions, collaborative relationships, and opportunities for exchange and sharing that improve the lives of residents.

The main objective of CO-MIX is to build a model of generative welfare and community by acting on two main axes: cultural activities and social inclusion for people with disabilities, through the development of housing pathways for independent living, co-designed with the network of organisations responsible for supporting people with disabilities (local institutions and the third sector) to implement the Life Plan (Legislative Decree No. 62/24, Art. 18). The second phase of CO-MIX involves the piloting of the project concept outlined in the feasibility study.
