Renewable Integrated Smart Energy System
Claudio Del Pero (Principal Investigator)
The main objective of the project is to conduct industrial research to develop a methodological approach to provide affordable renewable energy to off-grid communities but also urban areas in the Sahara and Sahel regions.
The core technological solution will be a modular all-inclusive photovoltaic (PV) system that can be easily installed as a lightweight canopy both on flat roofs of typical North - African buildings but also on the ground as a shading/protective element, equipped with anti-soiling PV modules, repurposed batteries, an hybrid inverter for off-grid/on-grid operation and a smart control logic, with communication capabilities, to exchange data with other equipment deployed in the local area, and with an external monitoring platform. The solution will be developed considering the specific features and needs of the context (present and future, also considering the effects of climate change), allowing the proposed solution to also bring additional benefits to energy generation, such as the reduction of overheating in the buildings and the creation of new local economic activities.
Contribution to SDGs: 7, 9, 11

DABC Activities
DABC will strongly contribute on project coordination and management (WP1 leader), but will also support FRAU ISE in WP 3, dealing with the structural design, and SUT in communication and dissemination activities.
